Description

Reliable outdoor Wi-Fi solution, the Ubiquiti NSM5 NanoStation M5 offers long-range 5GHz wireless connectivity for point-to-point or multipoint networks.

Ubiquiti NSM5 NanoStation M5

The Ubiquiti NanoStation M5, also known as the Ubiquiti NSM5, is a high-performance outdoor wireless device designed for long-range connectivity over the 5 GHz frequency band. Built for reliability and durability, this device is ideal for creating point-to-point (PtP) or point-to-multipoint (PtMP) wireless links, often used in environments where running physical cables is not practical or cost-effective.

At its core, the NSM5 features a powerful integrated dual-polarity directional antenna with a gain of around 14 to 16 dBi. This allows it to deliver strong signal strength and maintain stable connections even over distances of up to 15 kilometers, assuming clear line of sight. It uses 802.11a/n Wi-Fi standards and 2×2 MIMO technology to enhance throughput and connection reliability. In real-world conditions, users can expect data transfer rates of over 150 Mbps, which makes it suitable for applications like video surveillance backhaul, rural internet distribution, or building-to-building networking.

The NanoStation M5 runs on Ubiquiti’s proprietary airOS firmware and supports airMAX technology. These systems are designed to improve wireless performance by reducing latency, increasing bandwidth efficiency, and handling multiple users more effectively through TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) protocols.

Physically, the NSM5 is compact, lightweight, and rugged. It’s enclosed in a weather-resistant casing that’s built to withstand harsh outdoor conditions, with an operational temperature range that makes it suitable for deployment in both hot and cold climates. The device is powered using Passive Power over Ethernet (PoE), which means it only requires a single Ethernet cable for both power and data—making installations simpler and more flexible.

Another useful feature is its secondary Ethernet port, which allows for PoE pass-through. This can be used to power another nearby device, such as a security camera, without needing an additional power source.

Overall, the Ubiquiti NanoStation M5 is a dependable, cost-effective solution for wireless networking professionals who need long-distance, high-speed outdoor connectivity. Whether you’re linking remote buildings, extending internet access in rural areas, or setting up a surveillance system, the NSM5 delivers robust performance with a relatively easy setup.
